Founders and Board Members

Our involvement in Hope Village was brought about by the desperate needs we witnessed as we travelled through Asia in the late 1990’s. What we saw changed us forever.

Our heart is to see the lives of children transformed from being unwanted, unloved and in some cases un-named into healthy children who grow in a loving family environment.

In this environment we see them thriving physically, emotionally, educationally and spiritually.

We believe that each child is created with a God-given purpose and take great joy in being part of the reconstruction of many lives both in 24/7 care and bringing educational opportunities to the remote and disadvantaged in the location we are located in.

Mark Heard (Vice Chairman)

"I travelled to Indonesia soon after the tsunami/earthquake in 2004/2005. I saw first hand the devastation the tsunami/earthquake caused & the tens of thousands of lives that were changed in a split second. I felt then & still do I'm on this earth to do more than just look after myself. We are each made to do something significant whether big or small & being able to make a difference in a child's life is significant."

Sonia Heard (Treasurer)

"I believe that every child should feel loved, cared for & have the opportunity of reaching their potential through education. It is a privilege to use my experience in business management & book- keeping to help those that are disadvantaged through poverty & natural disasters or at risk through other circumstances achieve their dreams."

Dean Huntley (Secretary)

“I work for Bethany Christian School as the Bursar and head of Operational Management and have always had a passion for the lost especially children from disadvantaged backgrounds. I believe all children hold the treasure of God and that there is light in each of them - it just needs to be allowed to thrive. I love seeing how Hope Village changes the lives of the lost and hopeless and gives them hope and joy that is only found in a relationship with Christ”.

Jen Strikwerda (Sponsorship manager)

As a child I read about missionaries and adventurers who saw the difficulties of others and affected change on their behalf. There are approximately 71 million orphans in Asia. A problem this size is overwhelming, but I choose to do what I can to help because every child matters.  My husband and I have supported the work of Hope Village since 2007, volunteering in various capacities both in Australia and onsite.

Sam Penaluna (Advisor)

"My wife and I own a business in South Australia servicing all types of industries and part of that has required me to make several business trips to Asia. I have also been on numerous trips to Indonesia to assist in the initial construction of the first 2 homes at Hope Village. One of my dreams is to bring finance from the business world into aid relief work for the abandoned and forgotten whilst giving them a message of hope."

Hope Village Management Team

In 2019 we established the Management Team. They are each responsible for separate areas that include Child Welfare, Administration and Education. Each of them are uniquely gifted people that lead their areas with diligence and passion.
