Hope Village Media Team

For several years, staff from Bethany Christian School have travelled to Hope Village, in rural Sumatra, Indonesia, to support the work of Aid Indonesia, through working with the teachers at the Hope Village School - providing support and training.

As well as facilitating PD for teachers at the Hope Village School, staff have also aided with the production of films and media that have been used to promote the work of Aid Indonesia, with the hope of encouraging others to partner with the work that is being done. 

Prior to heading over to Indonesia, in July of 2019, year 6 students from Bethany Christian School group raised funds by means of a garage sale. In conversation with students from the group it was decided that equipment would be purchased to make it possible for children at Hope Village to form their own media team.  

The equipment provided included, a DSLR Camera, a computer, a tripod, a video microphone, and several accessories required to get a media team up and running.

During the visit, where the equipment was brought to Hope Village, one of our teachers was able to sit down with a few of the young people and provide some basic training focusing on photography and film production. In addition, discussions were had around the equipment, its intended purpose, and how to use it in a responsible manner.

With these things in place the team learned how to: plan and create a short film, interview a subject, capture b-roll footage, portraits, work collaboratively, and exhibit/share their work. After just one week the team had produced several films and captured some amazing images.

With the desire to grow and to improve their craft the team has continued to learn, create, and share, photographs, interview-based films, and music-based film clips. Their ability to produce and share content during the Covid period, when no other film crews or photographers could visit, was critical to seeing the ongoing story of Hope Village shared.

To this day, the team continues to produce content that has been shared with a wide audience.
